What this site does and does not collect. The short version: your salary never leaves your device.

Last updated: 16 August 2026

This policy explains what Take-Home Index collects, what it does not, and what third parties are involved.

What we do not collect

Take-Home Index has no accounts, no logins and no sign-up. We do not ask for your name, email address or any other identifying detail to use the calculator.

Salary figures never leave your browser. The calculator runs entirely as JavaScript on your device. Income you enter, countries you select and results you generate are not transmitted to any server, are not logged, and are not stored. Closing the tab discards them.

What is collected

Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard web server information when a page is requested, including IP address, browser type, referring page and timestamp. This is ordinary hosting infrastructure and is used to keep the site running and diagnose faults.

Analytics. If analytics are in use, they record aggregate page views and referral sources. They do not record anything you type into the calculator.

Third parties

Advertising. This site currently displays no advertising. If advertising is introduced, this page will be updated before it appears, naming the network and what it collects.

Analytics. This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It records the pages you view, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device you use. It sets cookies to recognise a returning browser. It does not receive anything you type into the calculator: salary figures never leave your browser, so there is nothing for it to collect. IP addresses are anonymised before storage. You can opt out across all sites using the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

Exchange rates. When you select a display currency, your browser requests current reference rates from the Frankfurter API, which serves European Central Bank data. That request reveals your IP address to that service in the ordinary way any web request does. It does not include your salary figures or any other input.

Fonts. Typefaces are served by Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when a page loads.

Cookies

Take-Home Index sets no cookies of its own. The only cookies on this site are set by Google Analytics, as described above, to distinguish one browser from another and to measure how long a visit lasts. Blocking them stops the analytics and does not affect the calculator, which runs entirely in your browser either way.

Your rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation gives you rights over personal data held about you, including access, correction and erasure. Because we hold no user accounts and no calculator inputs, the only personal data associated with your visit sits in server logs and third-party advertising systems. Requests relating to advertising data should be directed to Google.

If you are in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you comparable rights, including the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

NOT LEGAL ADVICE. This is a drafted policy, not a lawyer-reviewed one. Before publishing, three things need checking by someone qualified:

1. GDPR consent mechanics. Serving personalised ads to EEA and UK visitors requires a consent management platform under Google's EU user consent policy. A policy page alone does not satisfy it. This is the most likely reason an AdSense application gets held up. 2. Whether analytics are actually installed, and which. The analytics paragraph is conditional and should be made specific or removed. 3. The California and GDPR sections describe the site's actual data handling correctly, but the wording has not been reviewed against current statutory requirements.
