How Spain taxes a salary
- Seguridad Social Employee share: common contingencies 4.70%, unemployment 1.55%, vocational training 0.10% and MEI 0.15%. The MEI rose from 0.13% to 0.15% for 2026, so sources still quoting a 6.48% total are using last year's figure. Capped at the 5,101.20 EUR monthly maximum base. Earnings above that attract an additional solidarity contribution in progressive tranches, which is not modelled.
- Otros gastos deducibles Fixed 2,000 EUR deduction against employment income. The separate reducción por obtención de rendimientos del trabajo applies only below roughly 19,747 EUR of net income and is not modelled.
- IRPF: escala estatal The state half of the tax. Widely published tables showing 19%, 24%, 30%, 37%, 45% and 47% are the state scale plus a default regional scale, and apply exactly only where a community has not set its own tariff.
- Mínimo personal (estatal) Spain does not deduct the 5,550 EUR personal minimum from the base. It runs the scale twice and subtracts, so the relief is worth the minimum taxed at the lowest rate: 5,550 x 9.5% = 527.25. Cross-checked against a published worked example.
